>Potential Snowstorm Lower GL Update #3

>

Things are heating up in the MW! I’m the chief meteorologist here to issue an official update for this event.

So we’re going to go in order. It’s gonna be pretty long, so I’ll lay out a table of contents.
1. Other Weather Site’s forecasts
1.1 Reliability based on others forecasts
2. Nws forecast
1. Other Weather Site’s Forecast (Titles and forecasts are respectfully theirs.)
Okay, we’re gonna start out with the big guys.
Accuweather Forecast:
Friday Night: Accuweather is predicting only about an inch or two for accumulation.
Saturday: Accuweather reports that the snow will taper off with another 1-2 inches.
Total Accumulation: 3 inches
The above image is from Accuweather.
The Weather Channel/Weather.com
Friday Night: TWC says that the snow will become a probability of majority at midnight on Saturday. It says 1-3 inches.
Saturday: The snow continues until at least Noon on Saturday. An extended forecast does not say the accumulation at this time.
Total Accumulation: At least 1-3 inches.

Saturday: Snow.
Total Accumulation: At least 2-4 inches.
MSN Weather
Friday Night: Snow starting at 4pm.
Saturday: Snow continuing until at least 3pm.
Total Accumulation: Unknown.
CNN Weather
Friday Night: Mostly Cloudy, Snow likely starting in the evening.
Saturday: Snow.
Total Accumulation: Unknown.
So, those are the forecasts from a lot of sites. The NWS forecast will come later.
Now, let’s see the averages.
Out of the 4 forecasts predicting the least amount of snow in their predictions (example: 2-4 inches. use 2 inches.), they all combine the least predicted amounts to 8 inches, but possibly more.
AVERAGE LEAST AMOUNT FORECAST: 2 INCHES
Out of the 4 forecasts predicting the most amount of snow in their predictions (example 2-4 inches. Use 4 inches.), they all combine the most predicted amounts to 16 inches, but possibly more.
AVERAGE MOST AMOUNT FORECAST: 4 INCHES
TOTAL AVERAGES: 2-4 INCHES.
1.1 Reliability
I believe that the 2-4 inches is off, because a couple forecasts say that its too far off for the accumulations to be determined.
But from what some other meteorologists have been saying, it could be significant, which is higher than 5 inches.
So the current average is 2-4 inches, but my prediction is 3-6 inches.
2. HPC, NWS Forecasts
The following is the Special Weather Statement issued by the Chicago, Illinois NWS.

WINNEBAGO-BOONE-MCHENRY-LAKE IL-OGLE-LEE-DE KALB-KANE-DUPAGE-COOK- LA SALLE-KENDALL-GRUNDY-WILL-KANKAKEE-LIVINGSTON-IROQUOIS-FORD- LAKE IN-PORTER-NEWTON-JASPER-BENTON- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...ROCKFORD...BELVIDERE...WOODSTOCK... FOWLER 354 PM CST THU DEC 2 2010 /454 PM EST THU DEC 2 2010/ ...ACCUMULATING SNOW EXPECTED FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY... A STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE MIDWEST FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO START ACROSS NORTHWEST ILLINOIS FRIDAY EVENING...AND THEN SPREAD ACROSS THE REST OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS FRIDAY NIGHT AND NORTHWEST INDIANA EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE SATURDAY WITH LAKE EFFECT SNOW POSSIBLE SATURDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND THEN ACROSS NORTHWEST INDIANA SATURDAY NIGHT. IF CURRENT TRENDS CONTINUE...SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE AREA. THE EXACT TRACK OF THIS STORM...AS WELL AS THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL LAKE EFFECT SNOW...IS UNCERTAIN AND IT IS STILL A BIT TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE SPECIFIC SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OR WHERE THE HEAVIEST SNOW MAY FALL JUST YET. ANYONE WITH TRAVEL PLANS FRIDAY NIGHT OR SATURDAY SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND MONITOR LATER FORECASTS FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION AND SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AS THIS STORM EVOLVES.

So that's that.
What I will do is issue another mini update so that this post doesn't go on so long.
Update 3.1 coming in a moment.
